Cargas Crit

What makes this team strong is that we learn from mistakes and capitalize on them the next time.  We raced really well the entire race, except at the end we messed up a little.  No big deal, this weekend is another race.  One things about crits as EJ says is luck, alot of luck and skill of course, but lots of luck.  It was still alot of fun, and we as a team will bounce back this weekend.  Look for the HZ/PBR teams in Bloomsburg for the RR on sat. and Crit on sunday.

The lesson from yesterday’s race: Teamwork and patience (plus a touch of luck) lead to good things…

Max and I were the only ones out for the men’s 4-5 races yesterday at Cargas, but no matter, we were going to put on a show. For those who have never been there, this course starts out with an easy left then a long sweeping downhill left that delivers you to the last corner, a challenging 90 degree, fast downhill left that puts you on the final straight which is a 500 meter, uphill drag to the finish. This hill is similar, but longer to the finishing straight at the Lemon Hill crit. There was no 200m “To Go” sign on the course so before the race I paced out the course with my cycling computer to see where it was. I knew people would begin the sprint as soon as we came off the last turn which was way too early given that it was 500m uphill. Making mental note of the 200m mark (a driveway just past a parked Subaru STI) I headed to the line. Read the rest of this entry »

This race did not go exactly how we had wished.  It was fast and as a team we rode strong,  but it felt very unorganized today and almost like we were our own worst enemy.  We were in almost every move but nothing was sticking.  The course was fast and pretty fun,  definitely a power course.  We finally had the making of a good lead out but I think I made some last minute decisions that really effected the outcome of the lead out and finish.  I hesitated when I should have drilled it and puked in pain!  I had the gas,  just not the brains today. I guess learning from mistakes is part of the process.
